£1500 New build advice

Looking for a few tips and pointers as I haven't built anything in this price bracket and i'm a little out of touch.

My friend wants to build a gaming PC for £1500 all components required including OS and monitor (peripherals already covered outside of this budget)

The only requirements are it can majority of new games on decent settings and not be completely out of date in a couple of years to avoid constantly upgrading. He would probably prefer a GTX980 and intel over an amd build but is open to suggestions.
