Hello All,

Been a while since I built a computer for myself.

I currently have:

Gaphics: 7800 GTX
Motherboard: Asus A8N-SLI Premium
RAM: 2 GB DDR2
939vAMD x2 Duel Core 4400
PSU: Hyper 550 power supply
Monitor: 1920 x 1080

Looking forward to a speed boost!

I have around £1500 to spend. I already have keyboard/mouse and monitor. 24inch (1920 x 1080 res).

The pc is going to be used for programming/gaming. I don't intend to upgrade for 4 years. I will be overclocking. The computer will be in my room at university so I do want to make it as quiet as possible.

I am currently looking at:

Gainward GeForce GTX 580 "GOOD Edition" 1536MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card £439.99

Intel Core i7-2600K 3.40GHz (Sandybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor with FREE Lost Planet 2 PC Game - Retail £266.99

OCZ Vertex 2E Bigfoot 120GB 3.5" SATA-II Solid State Hard Drive £179.99

Corsair HX 850W ATX Modular SLI Compliant Power Supply (CMPSU-850HXUK) £140.99

Asus P8P67 PRO Intel P67 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard - (Sandybridge) £139.98

Coolermaster HAF X Gaming Tower Case - Black (RC-942) £131.99

G.Skill RipJawX 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit (F3-12800CL9D-8GBXL ) £99.98

Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium 64-Bit - OEM (GFC-00599) £83.99

Samsung SpinPoint F3 1TB SATA-II 32MB Cache - OEM (HD103SJ) £40.99

Akasa AK-CCX-4002HP Venom CPU Cooler (Socket LGA775/LGA1155/LGA1156/LGA1366/AM2/AM3) £35.74

LG GH24NS50 24x DVD±RW SATA ReWriter (Black) - Retail £20.39

Arctic Cooling MX-4 Thermal Compound (4g) £7.14

Akasa 20/24-Pin 30cm PSU Extension Cable £4.79

ArctiClean Thermal Material Remover and Surface Purifier - 60ml Kit £4.07

Total including VAT £1597.01

Items that I am unsure on is the CPU cooler, in relation to noise and cooling.

The case, is the HAF X going to be quiet? Would I be better with the Fractal design R3? (although only available in White)

The PSU I am unsure on as I don't think I will go SLI, with a single GPU solution would I be better with the more efficient

Corsair Professional Series™ Gold AX750 High Performance 750W Power Supply (CMPSU-750AXUK) [CMPSU-750AXUK]? £136.84

I know your guys get a lot of spec requests but when spending avlot of money reassurance is always nice. I really appreciate your comments and support.

Kind regards,

Carlos

firstly, i'd stay with the 850w psu in there already, and that cooler is fine. you could get a much cheaper gtx580 than that though, like £65 cheaper, just a thought

Looking at the GOOD edition as I read that it's a lot quieter and I understand it's often the GPU that produces a lot of noise? My 7800GTX sounds like an aircraft. :-)

Nice spec, Yo will be able to get away with a 750w with a single card, my i7 at full whack and Fur Mark pulled 620w from the mains.
