It's been a while since I checked on here... wasn't there a 'spec me' thread? I can't seem to find it

Anyway, I'm looking to get a new PC for gaming (stuck with an old lappy atm). Ideally I'd like to have tower/monitor/Vista64 for no more than £1500. Any ideas?

How about this, And just install Windows 7, and pre-order it for £50 :)

spec above looks good.

Get windows 7 over vista, just use the RC version for the next month or so

If you can push the budget change the 320gb samsung hdd over to ssd

Thanks for the spec :) Is a £399.99 monitor a good call?

As for the OS, I have a Vista32 version. Could I install that on the new PC, then buy a Windows 7 voucher? Once Windows 7 is out, will it matter if you had 32 or 64 on your machine before? I presume it is out with the old and in with a completely new OS? I'm a little confused about how it all works. Especially this RC business... doesn't it recommend that you shouldn't install it on your primary PC?

if your copy of vista is OEM it is tied to your motherboard and you will need a new copy.

LOADS of people have installed the RC of windows 7 and it has worked great.
saves you buying vista at £100 then having to buy windows 7 in a few months.

and have a look HERE on the 32/64bit Question

You can only get a windows 7 voucher by buying Vista or PC with a voucher for Windows 7.

Once Windows 7 is launched this will require a fresh install, at the moment you can pre-order for £45-£50 then this will go up to £79 ~ in a months time. With Vista you can't upgrade from 32bit to 64bit, you will require a fresh install.

Win 7 RC has been fairly stable and quite a lot of people have used this as there main op system.

Ok, so straight from the beginners head, we have: Buy the components, build the PC, burn a CD with Windows 7 RC, install it (64-bit ofc :)), pre-order Windows 7, and upgrade to it when it goes gold.

Is that right?

Windows 7 will be relatively cheap compared to the previous versions of Windows as well, may be worth purchasing in the future.

In a nut shell yes :)

I think you will need to do a fresh install with a purchased copy, but the RC will not expire until later next year

They are good bundles, You pay a little extra for the overclock compared to purchase separately, I have managed to overclock mine to 4ghz with relative ease.

hmm.... whether to chance my first overclock on the most expensive PC I've ever bought... I may just give it a go! There seem to be several good walkthroughs on how to do it.

Are there any threads on here which have a beginners guides to building? I can see me getting all these boxes, and then trying to figure out where everything fits... although I hear that most things can only go in one place anyway... so I'm sure that with a bit of common sense, I'll be fine!.......right.......

Conscept, the 7600 build is a RTM candidate. It is not the RTM. Further, since it is is a RTM candidate, that means it will be using the code for the final version in regards to licenses. Hence only a real license will work and the Beta/RC/Pre-RTM licenses codes will not work. So trying to use the "leaked" RTM (of which numerous torrents have already been flagged as being fakes or pre-infected for your pleasure) will not work. However, using the Windows 7 RC is free for now (get it before the 20th) and you can upgrade to the final version when it hits shelves on the 22nd of October.
