Friends son is looking to spend £1500 on replacing his.

So I suggested he could probably go for a 980ti and a 27" 1440 for around £900.

That would give £600 for case, motherboard, memory, cpu and possible cooler.

Any one suggest a full build thanks.

Including operating system?

I've put this together as a place to start, it's got the "ideal" spec, a few minor sacrifices can bring it within budget. For example, if you don't plan to OC, we can drop the CPU, cooler and possibly MB too.
