150gb Raptor - jumper necessary???

Now when I got my new raptor (sealed), there was no jumper, yet there seemd to be pins to accomodate a jumper, even though they werent the usuall Master/Slave etc (used on IDE).. cant remember what they were, but they were unfamiliar...

I have since seen a couple of pics with the jumper on, and am curious now whether one is needed for some reason... although it is working fine, I just wanted to know if there should actually be one in a "normal" pc setup?

jumpers on sata are used to control other drive features (SSC etc), master/slave is only ide
