Alrite guys n gals, i used to be into the old overclocking about 5-6 years ago (cant believe it was that long ago :O) but suddenly completely lost interest and used my computer for the odd bit of gaming but mainly just internet + music. However the cobwebs are in full view now but my rig is as follows (im sure a lot of you will remember this famous setup):

Abit NF7-S v2 Nforce 2 Motherboard
Athlon XP 1700+ DLT3C (gem) runs at 2.4ghz all year round.
2 x 256 Mushkin 3200 level 2 ram (BH-5 uber ram at the time)
Sapphire R9800 Pro

Basically i want to start playing new games again (not to the level of enthusiast) the odd hour every night but at decent frame rates 30ish+ (comfortably playable) games like crysis (wanna see what the fuss is about) and stalker (i loved this game even tho i get like 5fps)
Probably just going to keep windows XP 32bit for now i see no reason to change i like it.

I dont want to put anymore than £150 forward for an upgrade on the big 4, maybe budge 10 or 20. Iv got a good quality antec 550w PSU from the current rig which i believe will still be fine?

So as im fairly back in the dark with whats flying around at the moment, can you spec me please? Bearing in mind I do like things that overclock, and i dont mind 2nd hand :)

Thats the best i could do and it isnt great. That setup is not going to get along with crysis at all. Your gonna have to spend a little more or search the bay if you want to be able to play crysis at any kind of half desent resoultion or graphics.

Yeah - tho you'd get much better value for your money (over double the performance in games) spending a little extra and getting the 8800GS or a 3850.

I'd also feel more comfortable with some budget corsair value RAM personally (or OCZ plat 6400) - tho that brings you upto £191.77.

I have a friend who says i can have his "sapphire hd 3870xt 512mb pci-e" for £50 is this any good?, you reckon upping my budget to £200 (-£50 for that card) would have a drastic affect on performance and lifespan?

thats a very good price for one

qwerty321's spec and the 3870 would be a nice cheap rig. Check you have a power supply that is decent enough to power it all.

Yes - you'd get well over double the performance for a slight increase in the price - infact the 3870xt is probably 3x faster than the 8600GT.
