I know, they're a virtually dead format these days but I really really like my 1900x1200 Dell and although it's long in the tooth and from the days of 60Hz or nothing, I was wondering if there are any good 16:10 monitors out there that even come close to acceptable gaming performance.

Part of me knows the answer will be 'no' but I live in hope anyway. I know there are one or two 32:10 monitors that would possibly operate 3800x1200 but it feels like a recipe for RSI of the neck playing monitor tennis :)

I can hope, although there's a fair bit of difference between laptop screens and full monitors. The Samsung lc43j890 was tempting, but it's out of stock here and frankly I doubt I have the rig to drive that kind of monster. 2021 was supposed to be PC upgrade year, my current machine is from 2014 and I've been putting off the upgrades since Moore's Law died. That's come back to bite me in the seat in a big way :/

That’s what I’m using, alright. It’s still a nice piece of kit despite the faint purpling in the extreme lower corners that I got used to around 9.5 years ago, but it would be a severe bottleneck when the upgrade finally happens. At least with summer coming up it means more time out on the bike rather than indoors on the PC, but I’d like some idea of what my autumn’s going to look like :D

Is it just for gaming or do you have business requirements too such as connecting to a laptop with USB-C?

99% gaming and the occasional distance learning module for work that doesn't require you to be on the work VPN, so call it purely gaming. I have the 43" HDMI 2.1 display from Asus on my wish list, but it's all about the GPU market. My GF lives in Newcastle Under Lyme so I might just camp outside the click and collect with a "Will debase self for a 3080ti" sign on launch day :P

Haven't touched a Blizzard game since the Blitzchung thing. Tired of this sucking up to China rubbish, plus let's face it, Blizzard haven't produced anything good in years. Pretty cutscenes but recycling the same old "x is corrupted, they're the next raid boss" or yet another Diablo clone.
