I don't want to shell out a massive amount on a new card with Dx11 cards just around the corner, but I do want to be able to run games at 1920x1200 at max settings.

The conventional wisdom seems to be to go for a 275 or a 4890, but if I could pick up a 4850x2 for £150 wouldn't that perform better? Latest model does not necessarily equal best, surely?

I'm a bit of a weirdo tbh, and love to go the unconventional route. Which is why I ended up with a Panasonic 3DO and an Atari Jaguar. Is it really time for me to go with the herd?

Oooh, and yes whilst I'm here, wouldn't I be better to go ATI as I'm using an AMD chipset?

275! most 275 out perform 4890 by few flamerates :)

I'm not starting a flame thread here, so don't accuse me of it :D

But here goes: Even when ATi's card matches nVidia's equivalent both performance and price wise, I will go for nVidia, simply because I prefer the drivers. That's not blind claims, that's my opinion before I get called a fanboi! :D

I'd go for the 4890, bargain at £143

or even the ocuk value one at £135

If the 4850X2 is the 2gb version then it would be another option, but both the 4890 and 275 would be around the same performance and a lot smaller :p the 4850X2 is a beast of a card.

I don't understand how people have problems with ATI Drivers?

Sounds like a fanboy grasping at straws heh! :p;)

You know, they're just used that with Nvidia they install the cd drivers and never will have to update them again because there just arent any new ones.
And with ATI all the updating every 2months is just so much hassle !

Looks like he's just saying he prefers them! ;)
Heh thanks gt_junkie :)

I did read prefere as problem :o

Still I can't understand how someone can *prefere* a nVidia driver over an ATI driver? how geeky is that! :p

And to base ones purchasing decision on something like that just leaves me wondering whats going on

I may well be missing something here? I just install the (ATI/nVidia) and get on with gaming, is there some hidden levels that I am unaware of or?

I still think you should get 2 4770s and crossfire, they out perform a single 4890, they will run cooler as there is less watage going to them and will not sound like your next to a airplane when gaming.
