there are a few threads based aroound your budget that may be worth a looksee.

what size monitor and resolution do you game at ?

i'd go with most of RJC's spec, as he mentioned cases are a personal thing so have a look around see what takes your fancy if you dont like the look of the corsair he spec'd.

maybe also worth considering :

nvidia 580gtx gfx card

Corsair Professional Series HX1050 (or similar), if you think you might sli the 580gtx at a later date or crossfire rjc's 6950.

optical drive will depend on whether you would like blue ray as well.

850W is more than enough for crossfire 6950's. even a 650W PSU would be fine. for the 580's i'd agree with you though

as for the build i;d take RJC's with a thermalright silver arrow instead of the gelid and a silverstone fortress instead of the corsair 650D (unless you plan on watercooling, then stick with the 650D)

Hey, thanks for the reply!

I've been looking at the HAF X or the Antec 1200 case. I have a antec 900 at the moment. I keep hearing about these Solid State Hard Drives, what the hell are they=)
Also looking the at 2600k and clocking it to 4.6, i'd like this pc to last me a fair amount of time!!
A friend of mine told me to get a:

ASUS P8P67 B3: 2x Rear USB3.0: 8x Rear USB2.0: 2x Front USB2.0: Firewire: Bluetooth - any good?

I have a decent amount of money (i think) so i'd like to have something that i could upgrade at a later date IF needed. Running 2 nvidia gtx 280s in this comp and tbh i dont see the point in 2 cards again? :x
The monitor i have is a 22 hanns.g, nothing great but i could always pick up a new one at a later time

thanks for the replys!

The ASrock motherboard allows for the upgrade of PCI-E 3 and Ivy Bridge cpus when thy are launched.

If its just for game playing don't bother with the 2600k and just go with one gpu for the time being.

SSD are excellent for operating system to be installed on and most common used programs, these dries are very fast.

if you have an antec 900, i'd be tempted to keep it unless you REALLY want a new case.

as rjc mentioned if its for gaming no real point looking at the 2600K (generally accepted its only worth while if your into video editing etc).

if your not concerned on the graphics side go with the single 6950, then in future if you up the monitor or want to try eyefinity etc you can always get another one.

solid state drives are basically memory dimms used as disk storage, no moving parts so less likely to have hardware issues with them.

mostly used to get a speedy boot time, very quiet, and some apps can make use of the extra speed to open/process quicker.

Hi again!

Im looking to use the System Configurator on this website, or getting a pre-built system. Im really not too great when it comes to putting things together :)

hi,

used the Intel 10200i Configurator - Extreme Gaming System and came up with the following :

Corsair Obsidian 600TM
2500K processor
Corsair Hydro H60 High Performance Liquid CPU Cooler
Asus P8Z68 DELUXE Intel Z68 mobo
Kingston HyperX Genesis Grey 8GB
OcUK ATI Radeon HD 6950 2048MB GDDR5
Crucial RealSSD M4 128GB
Seagate Barracuda 2TB
LG BH10LS30 10x BluRay-RW / 16 x DVD±RW Drive
Corsair HX 850w Modular Power Supply
Windows 7 Home Premium 64-Bit

thats £1,421.88 inc VAT, £1,341.89 inc VAT if you don't need the o/s.

can get the price down to £1,219.88 inc VAT if you don't need the o/s, swap the blue ray drive for the ocuk dvd-rw and swap the corsair psu for the OCZ ZS Series 750W PSU.

Coolermaster HAF X Gaming Tower Case - Black
Intel Core i5-2500K 3.30GHz Quad Core Processor
Stage 2: Overclock of CPU - 15% Overclock (Processor speed x1.15)
Corsair Hydro H60 High Performance Liquid CPU Cooler
Asus P8Z68 DELUXE Intel Z68 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard
Kingston HyperX Genesis Grey 8GB 1600MHz CAS9 Memory Kit
OcUK GeForce GTX 580 1536MB GDDR5

the stage 2 overclock.. what would that make it?

Sound good? would this last me a good while. I could probably stretch to more IF you could recommend anything that i would need instead of whats above.

thanks again people!!

overclock would take it to about 3.8ghz, i wouldn't bother just check the overclocking forum here and people will help you through it, 2500k is pretty easy to overclock.

give the sound card a miss and see what you think of the onboard sound first.

rest looks fine :).

Hi again!

Im looking to use the System Configurator on this website, or getting a pre-built system. Im really not too great when it comes to putting things together :)

its not that difficult, only thing you'll have problem with(I'm not very good at it) is the cable management(so your case doesn't look like spagetti junction and effect the airflow etc. would save you money/allow you to get better spec items for same sort of money.

wouldnt it be easier if some1 just created a topic/sticky for the best spec for:

Gaming.....
£500
£800
£1000
£1200
£1500+ ?
(Sli change up choices/sacrifices to fit budgets)

Video/3D editing.....
£1000
£1200
£1500+ ?

ETC lol, every 2nd topic is Spec me for this price :P

no offence to original poster. :)
