Looking at picking up a CPU really soon.

I'd love the 3600 but cannot justify the additional costs at this point in time so want one of the budget option to tide me over.

Currently running a 4670k which I've had since 2013 so could do with an upgrade.

The 1600AF and 2600 are basically the same so do you think this is a better option than waiting for the 3300x?

I would until the B550 chipsets are launched in the next few days. The Ryzen 5 1600AF/2600 will probably do better in newer games which use more threads, and the Ryzen 3 3300X will do better in older games IMHO. Intel is launching a new range of CPUs so hopefully it will also cause better pricing for the Zen2 CPUs.
i have the motherboard on the way already. if the 1600/2600 will do better in newer games then that seems the clear choice?

We'll I went with the following.

B450m Mortar Max £60
1600af £95
16gb hyperx fury 3200 £80

Hopefully the memory/CPU will overclock a little.

And from my research the mobo is the best matx one available in b450 format. Ie good VRM and will support newer Zen's

Coming from a 4670k

I was a little gutted as I bought the mobo before they said they weren't supporting it but on the basis that MSI had said that they would.

Least it will last me a while.
