Just wondering if anyone has made the switch between the two (either way) and had any comments?

I'm using LG 38GN950B UW at the moment which are 1600p. Before that I had 30" Dell 1600p and prior to that Samsung 1200p. I've not had any experience of trying a 1440p monitor and my main reference of going shorter vertically was 1200p compared to 1080p. I just could not use 1080p at all. Everything just felt so cramped compared to 1200p. I don't think you'd notice the difference so much gaming or watching films, etc, but it was always so obvious with web pages, documents, etc that you were missing lines at the bottom you would normally see.

I was thinking about switching to OLED but I'm reluctant to go 1440p without a serious trial period first. So if anyone has any experience of this I would appreciate their thoughts.

Cheers.

Yeah at 1080p 16:10 was better than 16:9
But at 1440p 16:9 is absolutely fine.
In some games 16:10 is a disadvantage, it stretches vertically and cuts off the sides so you get less visibility.

When upgrading from a 32" QHD to an Ultrawide, I chose the LG 38WN95C for the 1600p resolution. A 34" at 1440p wouldn't have felt like much of an upgrade, the physical size of the display vertically would have been less the the 32" monitor I was using.

It depends on your use case, I don't use my computer for gaming, I needed the extra vertical and horizontal resolution for viewing mutiple documents and web pages side by side, and 1600p means less scrolling.

After using 34" 1440p UWs for 10 years, I've just pulled the trigger on a 38" 1600P UW. It hasn't arrived yet, but its been mentioned in almost every review I've seen / read that the advantage in vertical height is probably the biggest deal over UW 1440p.

Before my UW I had a ~25" 1200p, and agree with you that it felt a whole lot better than 1080p.

Did you go for 38WN95CP?

Purely on the size / resolution aspect, my first impression after getting a 38" is I wouldn't be keen on going back to 34". Wouldn't say it's the height especially, but the overall increase in size brings more detail out and increases immersion with it filling my field of vision better.

I'm looking to switch from 1080p to 1440p, but am waiting for more mini led monitors to come on the market. OLED can have text clarity issues.

For gaming I use 2560x1440 or sometimes switch over to my 4K display, for desktop productivity I prefer 16:10 and have a 2560x1600 display albeit I'm often lazy and just use my gaming monitor unless I'm really into some project. For a long time I had a ultrawide alongside the gaming monitor instead but personally just didn't gel with it.
