The bands at the top and bottom are hardly noticeable while the bands at the side and very noticeable (just finished Bioshock at 1680 x 1050 or thereabouts) but that's the price you pay for wanting a nice screen but not wanting to have a top notch graphics card
I replayed FEAR at full res a while back and it was interesting that it felt quite different from 1280 x 1024
For non gaming use you'll never want to go back to a smaller screen, but make sure you have a big desk and have enough space so eyeball to screen is at least 60cms or it can be distractingly overwhelming. The only real downside is you can sometimes get a bit annoyed at the effort of dragging your mouse from one side of the screen to the other
Cheers Pipe, I am about 70cms away from my Dell 20" now, I have an 8800 GTX so the graphic card shouldn't be an issue (only maybe in Crysis @ 1920 x 1200). I can imagine the mouse drag issue, need a turbo on the mouse options
