1680x1050 native but can I set in game graphics higher

Hi all,

My screen is a 22" samsung widescreen has a native resolution of 1680x1050, however I'm looking at upgrading my gpu in the next week or so but can't afford a new screen (very happy with monitor so not looking to for some time). The card I get will be able to run good fps at 1920x1080 & was wondering if I could set the in game settings of any game I'm playing (for instance arma II) to this higher setting even though native is lower?
Would it achieve anything, would games look any better on my 1680x1050 at this higher setting if I did it.

If you're hard pressed for desk space do keep in mind that a FULL HD 21.5" is going to be wider than your current 22". (16:10 vs 16:9 aspect ratio)

My screen is 16:10 how is a 21.5" going to be bigger... I'm confused
I thought I had to go bigger, is it purely aspect ratio then, so the screen could be a 19" but still HD with a res of 1920x1080

I think you'd end up getting better advice if you just stated what you want besides Full HD. Size, Budget and resolution are usually the deciding factors.

Ok, I have a 16:10 but am looking at getting a 1920x1080 HD screen size 24".... around 150 mark
