169.21 --- Anyone else having issues?

Hi all

Really strange problem which I thing is driver related?

I've been having random lockups in Games and also in Windows XP (2D) and I've had graphical corruption in Windows XP also. I've ran MemTest just in case and double-checked my temperatures, all of which are fine. I've used RivaTuner to up the fan speed on the card (G80 GTS) to 80% in case it was getting too hot but this has not helped either. Card is at stock speeds.

I have therefore removed the 169.21 drivers and installed the newest beta drivers, 169.28. I think this must be causing the problems as it's the only thing that's changed lately and I guess a bad install would cause graphical corruption. So far I've not had any problems within Windows XP with these newer drivers, but time will tell.

Just wondering if anyone else has had any problems with 169.21 drivers?

i had something my pc start freezing around games temperature was kk as i am watercooling it so i switched back to older drivers for the moment anyway
 
Not suffering with that, but AA appears to be broken. Can't turn it on in the app, or force it in the driver. (GTS 512/Vista x64). Does it with .25 too.

Lame.
 
The 28's are just the .21's with some fixes for UT3 added, if you don't play it then the .28's are of no use to you.

Im using the 169.09 beta's still as i found the .21's to be utter garbage due to having broken AA/AF, and the .28's will be the same, due to being the exact same drivers.

The 169.09 beta's seem to be the best (well they are for me anyway) as all later sets are crap.

OH, and cheers to everyone for posting your findings. I just had a BSOD with a STOP: 0x0000008E message. Apparently a driver issue!! Grr! :mad:

It's either my Graphics Drivers or my Mouse (Just updated the Razer software) so I'll uninstall that as well...

Do you know if the 09's can be modded to work on the GTS 512?
 
Yep, you can. Just need to add the lines:

"[Manufacturer]" section:

%NVIDIA_G92.DEV_0600.1% = nv_NV3x, PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0600

and to the "; Localizable Strings" section:

NVIDIA_G92.DEV_0611.1 = "NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTS 512MB"

However, AA in HL2 seems to still be broken and doesn't work. Nuts to it, I'm gonna go have a cuppa and watch TG.
 
Grr! I have rolled back but I'm still getting problems, which seem to be getting worse. I'll be happily working in Windows and the screen will go all corrupt, PC will lockup and then will come back to life after 10 seconds or so?! Games are still crashing also. :confused:

Like I say, ran MemTest for over an hour with no problems, temps are ok... maybes I should reset the CPU back to default although it's been running fine for like a year?!

Does this sound like the CPU to people or the Graphics card??? As to me, graphical glitches is the card, yeah? It is a replacement from BFG as my first one broke also. :( Only had this one for a few months!

Cheers all for any help. Nearly crashed just now but it's come back to life.

Well I am sort of relieved you have this issue because I have the same issue. When it first happend I thought OK, bit odd but will let it go.. but last wk or so been having is happen on the occasion during gaming when it will just hang, sometimes just reboot after a pause in a game, once a BSOD and has even refused to boot after POST. It just stays blank (failing to launch vista - graphic error?)

I too thought graphic error then red in another thread today more people have similar problems but someone said to run memtest (which I will be doing when I get home). Although you say this isn't an issue for you so the original idea must be dodgy drivers.

It is a shame that nVidia can launch such a driver and have it WHQL certified?!?!?

I had another BSOD today just after I posted those two screenshots. Something about a TRAP_ROOT_CAUSE or something similar to that. no idea what that's about!

Will do, if there is any progress on your side let us know too.

I will take a look at the nVidia forums later, no doubt there will be posts about it there in greater detail.
 
OK after running MemTest 3.6 for approx 1hr I had 0 errors.

So memory is not the issue here after myself and Firegod have ruled this out.
 
Yeah found that on an 8800GTX Gears Of War vsync is totally broken yet other games vsync work fine but going back to 163.75 WHQL fixes this which is very strange.
 
ok thread is a few pages back... but recently updated to 169.21 and AA is broken in a lot of games and I have to tweak or force manually or in some cases it just plain won't even work at all...

also quite often getting general protection faults about 10 minutes into a game which I never got before, I have just increased the memory to 4gig on the machine but it passes memtest fine - tho with 4gig that doesn't mean its stable - but my money is on the drivers... so putting 169.01 back on as these seem to give me the best performance and hopefully the crashes will go away.
 
Sorry to dig this thread up again.

I think I've sorted my problem out. Just got sick of all the BSOD's and so I formatted the drive and installed XP again but with SP3 slipstreamed on to the CD. So far Windows is working like a charm. I didn't install the latest Nvidia drivers, I used the 169.09 version. :)

So fingers crossed, but I've never had this much bother before from drivers. Perhaps it was just my Windows install, or perhaps it was a bit of both. Anyway, it was due a format regardless but it's working well atm.
