16GB Corsair Dominator, Rampage IV & i7 help

I've just flashed my Bios to the most upto date version (3602)

Intel i7 3820 @ 4.3ghz
1.344v

Asus Rampage IV Extreme

4x4 CMP16GX3M4X1866C9 Ram
Timings 9-10-8-27-2T (I left everything else at stock)

I was originally having problems with X.M.P profile & overclocking the CPU, so I switched to manually entering the timings with much more success.

However I think it could do more.

Can you offer any advice about what the timings / CPU clock should be to get the most out of my system?

If your clocking on a RIVE you should go to my X79 overclocking guide. This tells you how to overclock on this format.

As for the RAM tune this when you have a stable CPU clock. The easiest way to tune on RIVE is enable Tweak Mode 2 and latency boundary nearer plus 1T command rate. Use 9-10-9-28 basic timings. Then down the seconds go 6,128,auto,10,6,26,6,8..

Thanks, I'm looking at installing a water cooling loop in the next week or so, I think I'll do that before trying to get a higher stable clock. As I'm not certain how good my current fan & heatsink are...

The more I read I wonder if I made a mistake upgrading my bios to the most recent version.
Anyway it's done now.
I'll update this as soon as my cooling loop is installed.

I am still on 1101 or 1005 for my RIVE. No later ones do as well for me and only add stuff I dont need. So I stay with them.

I think 1101 came pre-installed on my RIVE (I bought it last April).

However I needed 1202 because my RAM wasn't compatable with the RIVE before I installed it.

I suppose it would have been alright if I knew more about RAM timings back then. But I think the XMP memory profile for the Dominators I have was added in 1202.

Then I installed 2105 when I installed windows 8...

Anyway... I think I've almost decided on the composition of my loop...

Domnators should have been very much plug and play from the start. Set the timings yourself in the top 4 values then enable Rampage tweak mode1.

Money spend... awaiting orders...thus overclocking is now iminant...

(once I've spent almost a week assembling my loop....

But it's going to look FINE.... and really (other than the tweaking) that's the point isn't it?

Ok right:

This is where I'm at right now.

I'm not 100% comfortable with the temps... but that's another issue.

The only real difference from my first post is it's now 8x4gb of RAM.

I've had the chip stable @ 5ghz (125x40) but with 1666mhz RAM (which isn't exactly ideal (also it was running around 45(ish) degrees at idle.

I dropped the V-core to 1.3v

And this has dropped the temps about 7-9degrees... with no stability decrease.

I tried 4.75 @ 1.325v (BSoD at boot), & @ 1.35v (BSoD on Prime95)

I might try 4.625 later (x37) as I don't really want to go to 1.4v (the temps were higher than I liked)

So I think that I need to work in my BLCK & RAM timings.... what's my next step?

I could also do with some advice on my seconds and thirds as well..
