I've purchased 2x 16TB HDD (Western Digital) and I am currently trying to install them into my plex media server for additonal storage but they are not being detected.
Not in bios or in windows at all. Not in disk manager as a foreign drive either.

I've tested the exact wires on a DVD drive and it showed up instantly so the wires are not the issue.

I've plugged the hard drives into my 2bay USB external drive dock and both hard drives show up fine at the correct size, but when they are wired in to SATA ports they do not display at all.
I've tried formatting one of them on my main PC on the usb drive dock so see if it was a formatting issue but it still don't display.

Server specs:

Mobo: asus z170 1151 pro gaming
CPU: i7 8700k
RAM: 16GB
GPU Nvidia 980
OS: Windows 10 Pro

I've looked online before posting here but have had no luck.
Any one have suggestions?

Shouldn't be a problem with the Z170 platform but you do generally need UEFI support for drives over 2TB and I have encountered some motherboards (generally prior to the 6th or 7th gen Intel CPUs) where the out the box BIOS for some reason can't recognise drives over 8TB (but can be fixed by updating the BIOS).

Are they shucked Elements/MyBooks?

If so google WD Pin 3.3V fix.

Do they spin up in the server? If not I'd also try the above 3.3V pin fix.

Yeah they are shucked Elements.
I've had a quick look up of that, and will try this evening when I'm home from work.

Thanks for all your replies.
It was the 3.3v issue.
I removed the 5th pin from my sata psu plug and then cut the wire before the first connector and both hdd are displaying. I didn't really feel taping up the 3rd pin would be reliable long term and wanted a permanent solution.
