Hi,

I am looking for a 17" laptop between £800-1000. Currently i have a 15" Aspire 5920 which has a core 2 duo (2Ghz), 4GB Ram, ATi 3650 and a Blue-ray drive.

The problem is that the performance is slow and the battery has died so i am looking at a new higher spec 17" laptop but i am not sure which one is the best to get.

I will be mainly using it to do software development, hence the larger screen size, but i would like to be able to run some games on it.

I was looking at the MSI GX740 but it only has an i5 430M which may be slow when running my developer tools.

HP have a 17" laptop with an i7 but only an ATi5650:

for £995

Although i think the graphics card is a little weak, but it does have an i7, i have read a few reviews regarding the GX740, implying that the screen is not up to much which is no good for me as i will be using it all day.

can anybody suggest any other options?

Thanks
Andy

I'd look at Sony's and Dell's as well. And both make good HD screens on laptops.

You will loose on graphics power (not gaming laptops), but they'll still be quite decent (HD 5650 recommended, or GT 435M, basically tier 2 DX11).

Hi,

Thanks for the feedback. I was looking at the MSI GX740 but i am not sure if i would want to use this all day, if they have saved all the money to pay for a very good GPU.

i am not really bothered about the screen being HD 1600 will do.
