Hey guys, just wondering if i could have some help finding a good laptop for my mum with a 17" screen for around 500 to 600 quid. It doesn't have to have a fancy gfx card as i doubt i'll get to play any games on it :(. So which do you think is the best to go for, I have looked at the dell vostro and was just wondering if I can get anything better for the money.

thanks

Jonny

for that price range not really,

you have some cheaper acers, but thier the older models and i wouldnt touch them, unless its the newer gemstone design

Yep - its a bit weird really, I've ordered two over the last few weeks. One took 12 days to arrive, the other still hasn't (20 day old order).

It must just be certain configs or components that slow the order down. The slow one is the 15" screen and the order that arrived quite quickly was for the larger 17".

I think the 1500's are the ones with a long wait, theres more demand for them than the 1700's. Although a well specced 1700 is close to £800 all in.

A high street shop (indian food) has a nice 17" WS Laptop on offer. C2D 1.8GHz (of there abouts I can't quite remember) 120GB HDD, 1GB RAM, DVD Rewriter, Wireless etc.

£449 All in. 2 Friends have bought them and are very happy.

Also comes with Vista Home Premium.

Could you share which make model you are referring to? I dont think mentioning a make/ manufacturer of a laptop counts as competitor?

Am currently in the market for the best bang/buck laptop and i cant find anything which competes with the vostros.
