Hi all,

I'm abit stuck on to which monitor to get next.

I'm after a dell but and was going to go for the Dell Ultrasharp 1704FPV 17" monitor.... but then seen that the 19" are about £30-40 more.

I'm not a gamer and only use my pc for general use (i.e work, net etc)

then there are the 19" series. Two available and for the same price.
DELL - Dell Ultrasharp 1906FP
DELL - Dell UltraSharp 1907FP

could anyone shine some light as this will be my first LCD and am abit confussed on which on to get?

cheers guys

I'd say its worth paying that bit extra for the 19", u'll really appreciate the larger size and probs wonder how people manage to use anything smaller. I recently purchased an 19" Acer TFT from a local store, was only £189 so it seems that 19" are definately starting to his that mass-market price point.

Well there are some quite large differences between the model listed here. The Dell 1704FPV and Dell 1906FP both use 25ms PVA panels form Samsung. The Dell 1907FP however uses an 8ms TN Film panel from Samsung. The main difference you are looking at here is with the panel technology itself.

The TN Film panel is more responsive than the PVA panels here and offers better gaming performance because of it. However, the problem with TN Film technology is that viewing angles are restrictive, especially in the vertical field. Black depth is also not it's strong point, and movie playback can often be hampered by 'noise'. On the other hand, PVA technology offers much wider viewing angles, deeper black depth, better colour detph (a true 8 bit colour depth) and smooter movie playback. If you're not looking for a gaming screen then the PVA panels would be much better for all round use. In your case, i think either the 1704FPV or 1906FP would be ideal. The extra size which a 19" offers is really nice for movies and even for general use, if you can afford to get the 19" then i would recommend that
