Should the lack of ABS, climate control put me off the 172 Cup. Im finding it quite hard to find a vanilla 172 up in my neck of the woods. Unfortunately the 182's are still a little more than i'd like to pay. I have found a 172 Cup close by on an 03 plate for under £6500, hopefully i can negotiate a bit off that. I had a quick look at it today and it looks in pretty good condition and according to the advert only one owner although it has done just over 50K miles. Does that price look ok (trade) and should i be concerned about lack of ABS, climate control etc.

No idea, that is why im asking. As far as trade prices go it looks to be about the norm. Obviously a little cheaper private.

Sound a bit overpriced.

You should know without thinking if the cup version is for you or not. If theres any doubt, get the full fat.

I paid £6700 for a full spec 172 that done 33K miles a couple of years ago on a 51 plate

I think when the Cup came out, the retail was actually cheaper than a FF 172, could be wront tho

I've just bought a 53 plate 172 FF from a dealer with 25k on it for £6500 and its mint, was a bit of a steal though tbh. I wouldn't ever personally settle for a cup, I wanted all of the toys and the leather etc. I was specifically looking for one with cruise + esp too.

I think i'd be ok with it, but was hoping that someone who had lived with one could give their opinion.

As stated if you are unsure, get a FF.

For me though, its a hot hatch not a luxury cruiser. So cup for me no hesitating :)

Agreed.

Although I think some of the later cup's had climate as an optional extra.

I wouldn't pay over £6k for the one you've mentioned personally.

I like the idea of the cup. It also has nice wheels, unlike the FF 172. It it came down to it though, and it was my only car, I'd probably decide that Air con is something I wouldn't want to be without.

So the general consensus is that if i can get it for nearer to 6K than 6.5K it wouldn't be all that bad a deal. I was actually hoping i could knock them down to nearer 6K.

Put it this way, I was looking at a private one last week. Non Cup in silver, 52, 42k miles 1 owner from new - was up for £4,800 before it sold.

I can't find any selling for anywhere near that price up in this part of the world. £5400 is about the lowest i've seen for a private Cup and it isn't all that near by.
