.

Can't remember the figures for water and gas, but electricity is charged at 12.4p for the first 300 units or so, then 9p after that (from memory).

I live in NG12. I'm not sure what the bill is as we haven't lived in the house long enough, have used around 140 units in two months though.

Cheers for that mate! I'll be giving a few suppliers a call in the next few days, but not knowing how much electricity / gas we'll be looking to use, it's a bit harder. I guess I'd be best just looking for a decent provider in the area and going with them :/

did your landlord maybe mean £66pw inc bills? (have no idea what rent prices (for students?) are like in notts :) )

i live in ng7 with my gf, our gas and electricity are both from British Gas the recent bills were around £90 for both, significantly higher than last time (they were around £60 last billing period). i think we're billed quarterly but i'd have to check. council tax is worse, over £100 and they still can't get it right!

See, I thought that, but our rent is slightly more than that, so I think he is trying to pull a fast one. Not that it matters as when we took the property we expected to find suppliers etc. ourselves. I think it's him 'trying' to be helpful and at the same time make a few extra bob.

It works out to be nearly the same as our rent, so £66pppw x 6 is ~£20k a year and there is no chance that we used THAT much energy! ;)

Cheers nin9abadga... that's useful to know. Ill try and contact some suppliers today when works quiet. Thankfully, we are exempt from council tax

I used to Live in West Bridgford and my folks still do. Dad uses NPower after shopping around for ages as it gives the best price. There are 4 in that house but it is a Huuuuuge house and his bills are massive....

Have you tried a comparison site like Uswitch based upon your current estimates of usage?

Cheers mate - I'm going to have a read on how long we have to stay with each supplier for... is it a yearly thing? Because if not, I will just sign up for gas/elec with one company then when we have a rough idea of cost shop around.

The email from him said 'per person per week', I then abbreviated it to pppw. So I think that's what he intended.

OK - I have had a few chats with a few people in my office. If I assume that we are going to be using a reasonable amout of electricity, gas and water (unmetered) along with ensuring we use energy saving light bulbsm switch off appliances etc.

Gas - £50pm
Elec - £50pm
Water - £30pm
Internet - £35pm (NTL)
TV Licence - £10pm

£175pm / 6 = ~£30pm - that's much better :)
