Also these are both in the cable section. Is the only difference btw them and adsl routers that the adsl ones seem to have the modem built in? ie could one of these "cable" routers work if plugged into a seperate adsl modem? - I am looking for a router for cable at the moment but just wondered if I could use it for an adsl connection with seperate modem in the future if needed.
This is my question too.Kreeeee said:Do signal boosting antennae actually help if the network cards still use their usual antennae?
Phemo said:The newer revisions of the WRT54G use the VxWorks OS and have reduced flash memory and RAM. This means using 3rd party firmware is out of the equation.
The WRT54GL is a model which returns to the Linux-based OS and is more like the older v4 of the WRT54G. This means 3rd party firmware can be used.
In short, steer clear of the recent models of WRT54G (v5 and over). There is a Wikipedia article with more details if you need further information.
Also, yes, the 'cable' routers will work fine if used via an ethernet ADSL modem.
