if you hit the jack ball with a bowl,that bowl gets sprayed.
Only time it matters is when the bowls get knocked off the 'green'.Bowls that have hit the jack are counted as still in play in the ditch,bowls that are in the ditch and havent hit the jack do not score

and that is the sum total of my bowls knowledge

I just googled that very question 5 minutes ago as it was bugging me.

Apparently it's spray chalk, used to see contact marks when the bowls hit each other. No idea wht they would care about contact points?
