Hi

Im having great difficulty in getting Windows XP Pro to install onto my SATA HDD.

Its a Seagate Sata HDD and an Asus A8V deluxe mobo.

I have tried using lots of different sata drivers from mobo CD/asus website/VIA website but none have worked. Every time it sais to insert manufacturer setup disk. If i skip F6 stage, it tells me it cant fint any HDD's to install onto.

Can anyone help me ? The bios tells me its a VIA VT6420

Thanks, and p.s. i did several searches and nothing was helpfull.

Its driving me round the bend.

Head to the support website here:
http://support.asus.com/download/download.aspx?SLanguage=en-us

Choose motherboard, socket 939, A8V and click search, then you should get presented with a series of tabs.

Click the "Drivers" one and choose the package with a description of:
"VIA VT6420 (VT8237) SATA RAID Driver Package Version 2.20D WHQL."
for Windows 98SE/ME/NT/2K/XP/2003.

The main folder will be called VIARAID, go in there and then choose "DriverDisk", in there will be an exe called MakeDisk.exe, place a floppy disk in your drive and run that, then you'll be sorted for the F6 driver select screen when installing Windows. There is also a readme in the main directory that will tell you exactly which files to copy over if you'd rather do it manually but the MakeDisk executable should work fine :)

Didn't work :( But thanks anyway.

Everytime i try to load the drivers from the floppy disk it sais "insert manufacturers hardware support disk" then press enter when ready.

I press enter and the floppy drive sort of makes a noise but then doesnt continue, then i just get the same message as above.

Kinda wierd.
Man i hate PC's, might sell it.
Ryan.

Anyone got any info ? Any ASUS A8V owners know how this is done ?

I have tried using the DiscWizard Starter Edition from Seagate's website, it claims to make things straight forward, but it didnt work, the windows install CD still claims to not recognise any HDD's, although the DiscWizard Starter Edition was able to see it and format it ok.

Please, getting desperate now.

which controller on the motherboard are you using, on mine, im using the promise controller and the method Tetras suggested is what i used and it worked fine for me.

for the promise contoller you need the fasttrak 378 drivers for xp/2000

Clicky

Yer it is XP Pro SP2.

Ill try again, and again, and again, using different methods, but its quite annoying after a while :(

EDIT: How do i select promise controller? I just enabled everything.

P.S. I am only using 1 HDD.

OK, i have got these options in my BIOS:

-OnChip SATA BOOTROM (enabled or disabled)
-OnBoard Promise Controller (enabled or disabled)
-Operating Mode (RAID Mode or ObBoard IDE operate mode)

Also, i have 4 ports; 2 SATA ports (SATA1 and SATA2) and 2 RAID SATA ports (SATA_RAID1 and SATA_RAID2)

I have tried all ports, and both RAID SATA ports dont work, BIOS sais no array found.

Hope this helps, im trying everything and anything right now.

ANY suggestions are welcome :D

on the A8V the sata ports that are controlled by the promise controller are red.

is the HDD a SATA II you may have to set the jumper to SATA 150, not sure if the will make a difference tbh but it cant hurt to try.

Try the fastrak 380 raid drivers from a floppy drive again, is the best i can suggest to do, there under IDE on the A8V download site on website
