Down under mate!
Ok browsing on the cases forum today and suddenly my firewall says that svchost wants to connect to the internet which I thought was very strange.I closed internet explorer and I found that my desktop image had changed to a blue background with a box saying you have spyware please click here to remove it.

So i tried rebooting and on hitting desktop after about 10 secs the pc would BSOD.

So booted into safe mode ran spybot search and destroy and it found a reg and file entry cleaned these rebooted and at desktop the dogey wallpaper was still there and I keep BSOD.

Am now runiing ad-aware 2008 in safe mode and ideas what to do next!?

cheers

EDIT just noticed the wallpaper is named phc7indi0ea23

Its not that i can't remember the name of the virus but this seems to be cropping up on here a lot lately, do a forum search you may find what its called, seems right pain though.

Is it this? And what were you looking at :p?

Well that was the first thread i found, there have been more, if you know what virus you've got surely a google will surfice?

//Edit:Right quick check again its called Vundo, do some of your own searching!?

Hi thanks for the help I have used google but I can only find one removal tool which I am very very unsure about.

I recently had this, i used the new avg all in one antivirus & spyware to remove successfully, but i removed the startup reg myself after it was left behind. Maybe if you safe boot and msconfig startup programs look for anything suspicious;)

Just checked startup all fine in there its when I rebbot in normal mode that it BSOD after about 10 secs

SO you recommend I install AVG? and run that it in safemode?

Of course you will have to download it first, but if you bsod you wont have time unless you can boot safe mode with networking

Decided to do an install when i got this. Locked me out of my user account and kept displaying popups galore. Many many scans with ad aware, spybot, online virus scans and AVG seemed to get rid of most of it, but decided to reintsall in the end.

Funnly enough, this was the first time in about 5 years I had used the internet without an AV or spy scanner running and was the first time I got a virus. Lesson learnt methinks.
