just wondering if anyone has any experience of either the sigma or tamron 18-200 or 18-125 lenses. was playing with a tamron one at work today and it handles nicely and is a good size but i havent been able to test image quality.

i want a good quality lens that covers most of that focal range, just because i dont want to be changing lesnes all the time on holiday or on casual days out. i have a sigma 18-50 and a canon 24-85 but i dont like carrying too much and changing lenses in public.

any others to consider in the same sort of price range?

ive got the tamron, 18-200, its seems good! ( have nothing to compare it to tho! )

little bit slow focusing some times! but its incredalby handy!

i noticed the focus is really slow from one extreme to the other, short range focusing seems pretty quick though.

you got any example shots youve taken with the lens?

all of these super zooms are extremely poor from the user reviews I have read. The only one approaching "super zoom" that does get very good reviews is the Tamoron 24-135 SP. This is a decent lens by all accounts although it's more expensive.

Of the 18-200 lenses (Sigma and Tamron), the verdict on Nikonians seems to be the Sigma, but Amatuer Photgrapher seems to disagree. They rated them as follows:

Sigma
For:
Exceptional zoom span
Good outlines/sharpness
Good ergonomics
Value for money
Against
Shorter actual focal length span
Warmish colour

Spec 28/30
Build 18/20
Handling 18/20
Performance 20/30
Overall 84%

Tamron
For
Exceptional zoom span
Fuller focal length range
High resolution
Accurate colour
Value for money

Against
Longer lens barrel
Drawing at 18mm

Spec 28/30
Build 16/20
Handling 15/20
Performance 26/30

Overall 85%.

Taken from 18 June 2005 issue.

Hope this helps.

Hey do you have the Sigma 18-50 EX DC F2.8?

I would love to know what you think of it and if you have any pictures?

Sorry for hi-jacking :)
