A Swiss millionaire has been handed down a record speeding fine of $290,000 (£180,000) by a court. The man was reportedly caught driving a red Ferrari Testarossa at 137km/h (85mph) through a village.
...
"The accused ignored elementary traffic rules with a powerful vehicle out of a pure desire for speed" the court said in its judgement. (BBC online)
Excellent - serves the pillock right :D

Muahaha fine based on your wealth.

More fines should be based like that, that way you can't just treat fines as some inconvenient fee to do what you want.

"Pic of a 599"

Would it be that hard to get a correct picture?

Im guessing it is proportional to his income ;)

Which is the right way of doing it imo.

Can't see your view point myself, I get caught speeding and as the courts have decided that I can afford it get slapped with a huge fine, person on income support does the same and they get away with handing in an old blackjack and a fruit salad as that's all they can afford!

Good idea. Lets just run our entire economy like that - want a new car? £100,000 to some people, £10 if you are unemployed.

Dumbest quote of the year award?

How can a fine be comparable to making a purchase?

One is a punishment
