You do realise that the G850 is basically a G620 with a 300MHZ(10%) clockspeed increase?? It is very poor value for money. The Pentium G600 and Celeron G500 series make the Pentium G800 series look overpriced.

Moreover, you are paying significantly more for the motherboard than the CPU too. You say you are going to get a new GPU and I assume that is for newer games which the HD4850 cannot handle. At that point you might find a new game likes more threads.

In the past when you could overclock cheap Intel CPUs,a more expensive motherboard made more sense, but it makes less sense nowadays, unless, you intend to get a very cheap CPU as a stop gap for a few months in lieu of a more expensive overclockable one. If you want a fully overclockable socket 1155 CPU you need to pay £150+ for a K series Core i5 - cheaper Core i5 CPUs have very limited overclockability AFAIK,due to only have a few extra multipliers. All the CPUs under a Core i5 are multiplier locked and SB has very limited bus overclocking.

I need all the parts tomorrow though and it has to be within budget.

It's simple really, I will NOT be overclocking. That is a certain. 8GB Is quite a must for RuneScape though...

Could you link me a CPU/MOBO/RAM on what you personally think I should get with my budget?

Just annoys me when people say spend the extra £20 to get this and that etc... All those extras add up so as I say it must be within budget. I can't really push much past £180.

Thanks, I appreciate the advice. You also have to realize I am a complete noob with performance hardware so half the time I don't really know what people are talking about with it.

If you absolutely won't be overclocking ever then you may as well go for a cheaper motherboard (like a H61), though these boards don't support advanced featurs like SATA3, Crossfire or SLI - is that OK? Also, will you be needing USB3 ports? These can be had on H61 boards, but they push the price up.

Going for a H61 board doesn't exactly restrict your CPU upgrade options, as they should support all current and upcoming LGA1155 cpus (including Ivy bridge) - it is just that the lack of SLI/CF and SATA3 may limit future upgrades.

As for the CPU, the best you will get brand-new (within your £180 total budget) is an i3 2120 CPU - which is a nice processor. However, if you look for a second-hand i5 you will be getting a lot more CPU for your money.

Since you have OCUK MM access - you may want to have a hunt around here (and elsewhere) for an i5 2300 or i5 2400 CPU that is within your budget. Looking at previous sales I think this is very achievable.

I wouldn't mind sourcing 2nd hand parts but it needs to be done tomorrow. I've put it off for so long now!

Could you please link me the mobo, CPU and RAM I should go for then?

To recap, I will not be overclocking. Will be used for light gaming.

Many thanks

Thank you. Will they all be fine with the current 580W Hiper PSU I have for the moment? (As said I'm planning on upgrading it ASAP, the same time I get a GFX Card.)

Will that mobo run my current 4850 GFX Card fine?

Thanks

Yes he does
