If the 1800x really does beat a 7700K single threaded performance once overclocked, and even the 6950x in multi-threaded performance. Then AMD really are looking to be in a strong position. Something I never thought would ever be possible. However maybe these guys have a particularly good sample. Who knows, but I can't wait for user reviews. I say user reviews, as I'm a little worried about what Semiaccurate have reported.

Individual core clocking using their software tool

This feature sounds particularly useful to me. My 6700K seems to have one particularly weak core when testing under prime95. However as it's only 4 cores, and 4 cores are easily utilised, it's better for me to just lower my overclock.

That has been very much edited by probably wccf. The original quote was that 1800x overclocked can beat the 7700k in a specific test, and likely(from other leaks) something integer based. That isn't surprising, it will be faster in a couple things, slower in others. The original quote definitely only claimed it would beat it in a single test, not all around. Though it also said it will beat the 6950k but that isn't surprising. 8 cores at lets say for the sake of argument, they overclocked to 4.2Ghz on all cores, vs a 3Ghz base clock 6950k is surely going to be very competitive.

Tbh, I think what your saying sounds far more probable.

That's at stock. What I gathered from the article posted in the Op, was that an overclocked 1800x had better single threaded performance than a stock 7700K.
Which I thought to mean the clocks of the 1800x are hitting the 4.5ghz mark?
Still I obviously wouldn't expect single threaded performance to be able to catch a overclocked 7700k.

They have managed 5.2Ghz with extreme cooling so I reckon 4.4/4.5Ghz with a good WC setup would be more than possible.

There is rumour of the cinebench screen shot of 4.66ghz being on water, so perhaps that's roughly what the maximum clocks will be on water.
So maybe the OC range we can expect is 4.3-4.6Ghz, which I'd be happy with.

That's interesting, I guess they are somewhat confident in 4.4Ghz being achievable.

So if the average is 4.4Ghz would that make it a slightly better clocker than a 6900K? doesn't the 6900K get around 4.3-4.4Ghz on average?

If they are selling 4.2ghz bundles this early, that to me indicates 4.2ghz is easy to achieve. So yeh, 4.3 or 4.4 should be within reach for a lot of chips I reckon.

Stop this. Gibbo already said 4G and around that....very selected samples 4.2 all cores and threads.

Ln2 5.2 or so.

Below is what what Gibbo reportedly said.
"We just tested a 1700, it hit 4.0GHz stable in everything, but ONLY in the Crosshair mainboard, the lower-end boards it was hovering around 3.80GHz as the VRM’s were cooking with extra voltage. It however was maxing around 4050MHz, so I’d say 1700 can do 3.9-4.1GHz, of course the 1800X will probably do 4.1-4.3 as no doubt better binned, but if your clocking the motherboard has a big impact on the overclock and so far Asus Crosshair and Asrock Taichi seem the best two."

As the 1800x does 4.1 out of the box. I think 4.1 is the bare minimum people can expect. i.e. You would have to be incredibly unlucky if your 1800x doesn't go beyond that.
I'm also assuming Gibbo might be airing on the side of caution here with his estimations.
