It has been almost 4 years since I have built my last rig. This time around I'm planning to be lazy and get OcUK team to build it for me. As we all know this has been interesting couple of months with release of Ryzen and new Intel line-up with i7-7800x/i7-7820x and i9-7900x leading the way. As many others I'm a bit concerned with both platforms teething problems, yet I would like to upgrade soon.
I'm currently considering between two really similar builds. I use my rig for gaming and some heavy lifting with multiple VMs for work. I know this might look like an overkill for some, but I want this build to last.
From my experience this forum has been always a good advice around hardware. I suspect many of you already have similar builds and could share your experiences with your new hardware. I'm mainly concerned with:
Thank you for all contributions.
1800x with Geforce 1080(Ti):

7820x with Geforce 1080(Ti):

Both builds will most likely end up with Corsair h115i AIO:

Also with Ryzen I would like the following G-SKILL 3200 RAM:

AMD claims it is fully compatible with Ryzen, unfortunately it is not available on OcUK.

- Ryzen issue with high frequency RAM. Have they resolved these with 3000 MHz+ RAM?
- Ryzen 7 vs 7820x performance. In my case the Ryzen build is around 20 % less expensive, while from what I have seen from multiple benchmarks 7820x seems to offer anywhere between 10 to 20 % performance advantage
- 7820x/X299 temperature problems at stock and overclocked frequencies.
- 7820x temp issues leading to throttling, shorter life spam.
- Longevity. I heard rumours AM4 socket is supposed to be used by the next generation Ryzen CPUs, is that true?
- If any of you own a Ryzen 1700(x)/1800x or 7820x build could you share your idle/under load temperatures
- How reliable / quiet are Corsair H1xx AIOs in comparison to air?
- Any other observations you find worth mentioning?
Thank you for all contributions.
