.

windows in bootcamp in macbooks runs perfectly. That's what I'd do, if you're looking for build quality/aesthetics you can't beat a macbook. And the S7 looks like it'll cost the same or more

Series 9 or the ux31 were the best alternatives to the Air but now the haswell update to the air has happened its by far the best machine. Until that is the reviews of the ATIV book 9 plus come out (why didn't they keep the series 9 name...), however even the manufacturers blurb states "only" 7.5 hours battery life. The air has 11 hours and even if it loses a bit with a windows install it'll still run longer than the ATIV....

Just wipe the machine of OSX and install windows may be the best bet. The hardware is awesome, the software more so so...

+1 for Dell XPS13

Went from a Samsung U530 and it was a massive improvement. Got mine from the outlet for just over £600, just make sure you get one with the 1080 screen, its epic.

Problem is it's not Haswell and considering the battery life improvements it would be silly to buy an ultrabook without a haswell chip.

My dad is effectively after something as close to the 13"/15" MacBook Air/Pro as possible, but not the MacBook! It also has to run Windows.

Is there anything else out there that comes close to the build, size and design? It doesn't need to look too similar, but "smart", "professional" and "impressive" are important qualities.

He needs the laptop for work whilst travelling on trains, planes and in hotels, and for presenting to clients, hence the need to the form factor and stylish design.

I really do think it would be best to get a MacBook and use bootcamp to run windows 7 on it, but he is worried about running an alternative OS to the one designed for the system. Anyone have any experience and care to comment on their thoughts on running Windows on a MacBook?

Thanks for your help!

I've owned a lot of laptops and none of them came close the the build quality of a mac. Something of the aluminium body that looks very attractive too.

As for Windows on a mac - it is an absolute doddle. If he wants something like a mac I would tell him to get a mac. He might even start liking OSX :)

I have a early 2011 macbook pro 13. I have just recently ugraded it with 16gb memory and an SSD. Despite daily use once it was cleaned it looked like a new machine again
