.

I only want broadband, preferably unlimited as I use ~200GB a month (Digital game downloads on consoles/PC, patches and streaming media mostly).

Is it worth going with someone like plusnet even though it's not LLU?

For 200GB+ a month I would certainly keep away from anyone who uses BT Wholesale. Sky is probably your best bet. If you are considering Sky TV then check out the home cinema forum for a discount offer from myself.

no matter what the fliers say , sky customer service is god aweful and if you ever have to use it you'll instantly regret signing upto them

He doesn't need LLU to transfer 200GB per month.

Join Plusnet ADSL2+ and move to FTTC when it goes live.

And thats why I mentioned the fliers which keep stating those awards, I simply dont understand how they have won anything as they are terrible ! I moved to O2 and the differnce was like night and day, when I found out sky had bought out O2 I was gutted so rather than going back to sky I moved again to plusnet, thats how much I detest their CS :D

I was leaning towards this when I made my OP, I am interested to know more about these issues with non-llu connections though.

Back in the day the majority of BT wholesale connections had traffic shaping and bandwidth caps. This isn't the case any more.

Plusnet seem to have an excellent reputation. Is there any way of knowing if they will offer FTTC when it gets enabled on my exchange?

Agreed. Stuck with sky because the missis wants her tv but they are a nightmare. We had a random cancellation notice on our account for nearly 2 years

Hard decision as the broadband comes down the same line. It is just getting the right package for yourself. Search around websites for more information (the actual company's website for deals and compare them from there).

Well plusnet are supposed to be excellent. I may just see if I can make do on my Three unlimited data with tethering mobile contract until FTTC is available, but gaming will be a pain.

I often see as low as 50ms ping, but some days it's just bad and sits around 200ms, which is useless for gaming :(
