Hmm, £12 an hour doesn't seem overly tempting to work on HGVs all day, but whatever floats your boat I suppose. He must have earned a fair bit more than that for all his TV series.

Bizarre he seems to like the TV stuff, it also seems to be doing well in the ratings and it's far more interesting than a mechanic. Surly he can afford to do something more interesting if he wants to get back to tinkering.

I think he's his own worst enemy sometime though.

Agreed, but to be fair I think that's one of the reasons behind his popularity. In some ways when I watch him on any of the non-racing TV stuff he's done he reminds me of a young Fred Dibnah. Utterly bonkers. Completely hatstand. And he just happens to be quite handy at going incredibly quickly on two wheels. :D

He doesn't get paid for riding, loves fixing trucks and racing mountain bikes - quite easy to understand really. If he doesn't win this year on the BMW then he never will. Great racer, but better with other riders around him rather than time trials

Is that true?

If he wins, yes. Otherwise riders rely on sponsorships or pay out of pocket themselves.

You're looking at;

Bike, transport, tools and spares, protective gear, racing license, food and drink, fuel for transport, fuel for bike, race fee... is just some of the stuff. You get into it serious with dedicated race teams, there'll usually be a garage involved (TAS Racing for example).

Sponsorship comes from manufacturers providing bikes and parts, usually two, possibly three bikes depending on how good you are. TAS was also known as Relentless and Tyco, both of them would probably have paid TAS for the branding/advertising which TAS could use for things they needed which weren't provided by Suzuki. Otherwise it's all out of pocket.

TAS is now signed with BMW, so they're getting their machines from BMW.

I would imagine he is fed up of people sucking up to him wanting to be his buddy TV has made him into a ****** to be honest.
