Yeah I was very confused about what the LE cards were too. If its just a clock speed bump then theres literally no reason to buy the more expensive one... if thats the case I might get a Lightning LE..
 
LE = Lite Edition, so theoretically slightly slower as the clock speed but as stulid said you probably won't notice the difference

I asked Gibbo about these and they are "limited edition" not lite edition as wrongly pointed out above;) they have limited numbers he told me.

Its not just the core speed bump but the increased number of "stream processors" which along with the faster core speed gives the better performance all round.

The Lightning LE is no longer listed as it ran out (Limited edition, low numbers), plus you needed a good PSU for it as the lighting edition (LE or normal) use 3 power connectors from the PSU.

I'm sure my MSI 290X LE say's on the box (Lite Edition)

Depends on manufacturer even le is lame edition,
I had a 670le and was worse than a standard one but was cheaper, it died very fast and they replaced it with an ftw so cant complain

Pretty sure it means Lite Edition, that's why the clocks are a little lower. You also don't have to use all 3 power connectors on the lightning, The third is for extreme over clocking. My total system power draw when gaming with my lightning is Max 380w @ stock.

Basically this 290X costs about 10% more and performs about 10% better than the 290.

I'd guess that the "LE" simply means it's clocked 20MHz lower then the non-LE edition and may have less scope for overclocking.
 
My msi 280x was a le, and was defo lite edition.

Just slighty lower clocks.

Would be extremely surprised if other manufacturers put out a le card that was better than normal because there might be confusion. As proved here.
