I would say the a10 7850k will feel faster with it being a more modern platform, but in multi threaded tasks it will be slower. Also there is not really an upgrade path for a cpu like that as it is the fastest cpu for that socket. I really think spending a bit extra on an intel platform would be worth it with an i5. You have the option to upgrade to an i7 later down the line as well.

I wouldn't bother with that CPU unless you wanted to use onboard graphics, it's most certainly slower than your i7 despite the big difference in age.

Get a second hand haswell system if you need to keep costs down, will be a far better investment performance wise.

As someone with a 7850k, I would not go this route.
It's a decent performer, for the money, if you are using onboard GPU. I think you will be disappointed though.

I don't believe this thread.

Benchmarks won't tell a true story, because stock for stock the Intel's hobbled as Intels early I series stuff had low clocks, there's not an AMD chip worth moving to from an i7 860 once the i7's overclocked.

Anything will be a downgrade, or at the very best a side grade.

Sites like CPUBoss are the absolute worst for comparisons.

If you do look at getting a G3258, try a used one. At least then you might have some idea what it can reach and you don't end up with a turkey like mine. I bought it brand new just over a month ago and I can only get 4Ghz with 1.27v. :o
