Wait for some benchmarks and UK release prices then decide which is best bang for your buck, normally the card one down from flagship works out better for your money but its too early to tell. Sounds like youve already got an idea which CPU is gonna suit your needs.

If you are planning for this upgrade to last you a similar amount of time you might want to consider going with the i7. The 4 extra threads are likely to become important over the next couple of years once all games are properly utilising DX12. Might still be ok if you're sticking with 1080p though. More cores and threads are going to mean more FPS but that doesn't matter so much when if you're already getting well over 60 at that resolution...

Don't for get DSR if using 1080p resolution so 1080gtx and I7 6700k might be better. I am currently looking also but defo getting an i7 over a i5 and going with the 1080gtx. This time I am not holding back like I done in past just to get the price down. Its only thing I do so I want it perfect this time for at least 3 and half years be for having to upgrade the GPU again.

I am also only using 1080p at the moment with 1440p DSR. With the 1080gtx I will be able to use 4k DSR no problem. Have these cards going to get extra options in the control panel. The 970gtx introduced the MFAA any other in these newer cards?.

Haven't we been saying this for years already? :p

All depends on budget, but I think @ 1080p an i5 and 1070 will be perfect.

Agreed, whilst there have been numerous recent benchmarks going around showing huge FPS gains as you go up the cores with DX12, that hasn't translated yet into the handful of games that are supposed to be using it...

I actually sold my 2 month old i5 6600K and bought an i7 6700k on the promise of some of the stuff I've been reading. More fool me perhaps but time will tell...

Hmm I was considering the i7 for this reason, but it's always tempting to spend less and go i5 :p Though I keep thinking the smart thing to do is spend £100 more now to save money later, as I did with the 860. That may mean I can go another 6 years before a CPU upgrade. No need to worry about motherboard compatibility with GPU upgrades...

Go with I7 spend that bit more now and less time taking PC apart as more chance of it breaking. Not saying it will break and that you don't no what your doing but you no what PC are like.
