I'm looking to replace my 2002 19"(18" viewable) Sony CRT. It's time to retire this 30 kg beast. I'm moving soon and this thing is GIGANTIC !

Has anyone made the move and what did you decide to get and how do you rate it over your CRT monitor?

Are LCD's on par with CRT monitors these days or are we still waiting for SED? :(

Is it worth getting a cheap 24" over a medium priced 22" so that you've got the option of enjoying HD content on it in it's full glory?

I use my CRT for everything. From gaming to illustrator and watching movies.

Right now I'm thinking about the following :

Samsung SM-2232BW Pebble 22"
Iiyama E2201W-B2 22"
OcUK Value L2442WD-VA 24"

Any advice would be much appreciated. I don't want to make a **** decision. I would like to get something decent but I don't want to throw money away either :p

TIA !

i made the move a couple of years ago....my crt is sat right there on the secondary computer. as great as i thought it was its never coming back.

ive got a 226bw S panel and im very happy with it.

I brought my 19" Pansonic SL90i out of retirement for a couple of weeks until I got hold of my Samsung 245T.

I'd say quality-wise, it's still very hard to beat a decent CRT monitor. As an all-round package, though, with space saved taken into account, you wont be disappointed going to a TFT. That or one of the Sammys.

Out of the ones you've mentioned, I'd probably go for the OcUK one which has a *VA panel with better viewing angles.

I think 24inch is the sweet spot right now. anything bigger and you will really pay for it.

For my use, even the cheaper TFTs were better than the CRTs. So much brighter over CRT. I will never be going back to a CRT.

Only disadvantage is the native resolution of a 24inch. Games look poor otherwise. So if your a games player you may need to look into upgrading your video card as well..

Ive got the iiyama sweet monitor would buy another in a heart beat^^ search forums for more details info from me in the last few months :x

I had an iiyama 19" CRT for the last 6 years and it never let me down. Unfortunately over the last few weeks I got some bizarre magnetic lines that wouldn't go away. So off it went to the recycle centre...

As a replacement after plenty of research I was going to get a Samsung 22" LCD but I noticed a "managers discount discontinued" line in one of the big electrical retailers. £119 inc VAT for a 22" LG L226WTQ. 2ms Response time and 3000:1 contrast ratio.

As a CRT addict I was concerned it wouldn't be as good but it's vastly superior on the eyes and is really comfortable to look at. Games have a whole new dimension to them too with no noticable ghosting.

Go for one of the models you listed and you won't have any problems coming from a CRT.

I went to one of the local big pc retailers and I wasn't that impressed with the SM-2232BW. The T220 looked and felt much nicer. I think I'll be hanging on to this monster for a little while longer.
