Hi guys
I am currently deciding on a budget gaming system for my nephew but cant decide which monitor to go for.
I am looking for a 19" widescreen for under £150 which will be run by an 8800gt. It will be used to play games like cod4 and CS.

I am looking at these:
Asus VW195S 19" Widescreen
Samsung SM-920NW 19"

I cant find any reviews on them and was wondering if anyone here has gamed on these budget lcd's.

Thanks very much

with 8800GT in the case you should really aiming above 19" because pretty much no game except Crysis will push the potential of the card

Hi thanks for your reply. I feel that I can get a better quality 19" for under £150

I would really advise a 22" at least for gaming.

I upgraded a family member from a 1 year old Asus 19" Widescreen to a Samsung 22" Widescreen.

Cost was about £175, but you can get a non Samsung 22" for less.

The monitors im looking at are £130. I dont see the point of having a large poor quality screen when you can get a quality 19" that is in my budget.
I dont mean that all 22" lcd's are poor quality but im sure a 22" for under £150 would be very poor quality. My nephew is going from a 15" lcd.

I dont know what you are reading but who says the 22" Samsung is poor ?.

Its the best 22" on the market going by some reviews (ok you did touch on this).

You said £150 above, the Samsung is £175 here, you could get it for less if you looked.

19" is small for gaming today, that GT will be good at 1600's (22") in nearly every game bar 1 bad coded POS and a few bad console ports.

Unless you have actually seen the 19" WS day in and day out, then 1 day swapped it over for a 22" WS, its hard to explain the difference.

I would have pushed my family member for a 24" but they dont actually game lol.

I did not say the samsung is poor. I said my budget is £150 max which makes £175 over budget. I also said a 22" under £150 would be poor. All im asking is what would be regarded as the best monitor for gaming for under £150. Im sure a 22" would be great for gaming but my nephew cant afford one.

20" monitor's are good

I've got an LG L207WT 20" monitor. It's brilliant for it's price and very good for gaming. Got it hooked up to my PS3, 720p content looks so much nicer than it did on a 24" screen. You can get it for around £165.

You dont seem to grasp, OCUK are not the cheapest, you CAN get a 22" branded for about £150.

I just spent 30 seconds looking and already see it for £12 less (cant comment too much here), I would not loose out on a better Monitor over £10-15, but you could search more than I did and save even more.

I'm out, hope you do the right thing. :)

most 22" panals at that price range branded or unbranded tend to have the same spec/panel inside anyway... its just a bezel and a badge you pay for^^, but other posters are correct...

19" is wasted on that card, if not a 22" than maybe a 20" the resolution jump from the 19" diaganal to 20 is great and not much extra...

thats a great monitor for the money... shame its out of stock atm

i recently bought a 22in viewsonic from a local stationary shop for 140 sheets. it's far superior to my old 19in widescreen that i paid 200 for a couple of years ago. the extra resolution over the 19in screen on the windows desktop is great. and gaming is absolutely fine - not that i'm a hardcore gamer but i can't see anything wrong with it at all. the only downside is poor vertical viewing angles. but since i look at my monitor headon when using it, that's not a problem for me. :)

ive got a 19" ws LG flatron, was about 140 ish when i bought, looking at the prices of monitors, id love a 22", shocking that i can get one for the same price.

go for the bigger monitor mate, you'll regret getting 19" if youve seen a 22

TBH all 19" lcd's will be cheap and cheerful and of a similar basic quality. The people advising you towards a budget 22" are worth listening to and i'm sure you'd like it a LOT more than any branded 19" if you saw them both side by side.

Got a Viewsonic VA2216w the other day for £145, was £159.99 without discount. But it's a pretty good monitor decent response time, good contrast ratio and a good make. Not sure on the general opinion of Viewsonic but they have always been top notch for me. I bet you could get one for £150 if you looked around as well.
