19" or 20"?

I currently have a 19" widescreen and sit around 60cm away from the screen when gaming so quite close however I want to run more resolution, would changing to a 20" widescreen be pointless and a 24" far to large. I dont have to change to 22" due to it using the same res as a 20 and I want to stick to widescreen

A 20" widescreen will give you a 1680x1050 resolution.

I have a Dell 2007WFP and find it great for gaming.

1680*1050 is something like 36% more pixels than 1440*900, and 16.7% more vertical resolution. I've also got the Dell 2007WFP and I also think it's superb. Plus its S-IPS panel has much better viewing angles than the TN+Film panel you will have in your 19" w/s.

No reason not to get 24" though if you can afford it. Might have to slide it back on the desk an extra bit (especially at first) but I'm sure you'd get used to the size.
