Im still planning my ~xmas build and have a question.
Is 4870 or cf4850's the better choice for this resolution?
I have doubts about a dual-card set-up apart from the HUGE e-peen boost it would provide /sarcasm off.
But cannot afford a 4870x2.
Although thinking about it the 4850x2 should be out by then anyway.

Single 4870 would be fine at that res, its even great at 1920x1200 with lots of AA, beats the GTX 280.

Would a 8800gt handle TF2 and Company of Heroes at that res, (with AA off)?

8800GT is great for TF2 at 1920x1200 even with AA applied, it is extremely smooth. CoH is fine too. The Asus one even comes with the OH expansion pack.

Can you show me any benches showing the performance difference?
Apart from the usual FPS will it improve rendering/response time or latencies at all? It'd be interesting to know!

currently have a 8800gt KO, tempted to upgrade my 19" non wide, to a 24" wide

I would wait until a week before you want to buy and start looking at components,if you doing a build near christmas things might change before then.
As the 260+/280+ and 4750x2 should all be out then which might push prices down on the 4870/260/280.

TF2 is quite CPU dependant as without mat_queue mode i get as low as 27fps in heavy gunfire

Why don't you up the speeds on that q6600 should be easy enought to reach 3ghz. On the e6600 its just a case of upping the fsb to 333mhz.

Dual Card setups are really good these days, get a large boost in most things.
