Which ATI Card??

Hi people which is the best make of ATI card to get?

and my second question...

Do I go for the 1900XT or 1900XTX? whats the difference??

Thanks,

Stelly

Connect3D and Powercolor are Tier1 ATI partners which basically means they get the pick of the chips, HIS have a good cooling system and other than that I don't know. In theory all should be able to clock about the same as they are all based on the same reference design so unless one uses faster Ram or a different cooler there isn't too much to choose on other than price.

XT and XTX only differ by clockspeed, depending on the price difference and if you are happy to try some mild overclocking I'd probably opt for the XT.

XTX's are cherry picked and are better overclockers hence why, oh and they have an extra 'X' over the XT :p , but if your not to bothered then just get the cheaper XT as it will still clock well, and easily to an XTX. :)

So if I water cool a XT and overclock it I should be able to get XTX speeds out of it??

Stelly

Yes it should.

Though from previous posts, i do recall that as LoadsaMoney said above, that the XTX cards do appear to be cherry picked & thus do generally overclock past what an XT card would overclock too. Also the XTX cards have faster memory if i recall.

dont bother with x1900xt save money and get a x1800xt exact same card just less shader processors, the difference in my 3dmark 03 score between my x1800xt and my x1900xt is 600points noth that much when you are scoring 18,300 points in the first place and the difference in game is 10% more fps, save £150 get an x1800xt and upgrade next year with the money saved to a direct x 10 card trust me i wish i had never bothered getting my x1900xt when my x1800xt kills everything thrown at it and it is also faster than a 7900gt just to show you how fast an x1800xt is

Argh... see now I dont know which one to get 1900XT, 1900XTX, or a 1800XT... I'm definately going to upgrade to a DX10 card next year...

Stelly

If you have enough money, go for the X1900 :)

The XTX Has better memory on it so it clocks further,

Well I got my X1900XT in April for £305 and i've never looked back. It runs BF1942 + FH Mod maxed out really well with 4xaa & 8xaf @ 1280 x 1024, infact i've not had a game yet that it failed to run maxed out with a decent frame rate. I would advise against spending the extra just for bragging rights the X1900XT is plenty fast enough.

I'd just get the bargain 256Mb X1800XT and save yourself a whole load of cash for your next card.

Its more than powerful enough to tide you over.

IF you plan on being an early adopter of dx 10 then I would save the cash and get an x1800xt to tide you over as it will run everything out atm flawlessly.

Have to agree, 512mb x1800 XT here and it throws everything around maxed out in 1280x1024 (TFT). :)

xt it 50 quid cheaper and you can always overclock it to xtx speed because they both share the same coller ;)

ive just ordered a 1900xt...whats the normal temp range for a decently cooled case on this card?

I have a decently cooled case and I get 45C idle and just below 90C under max load, but the weather is really hot here and my room is like an oven in the afternoon.
