1900xt running hot?

Hi,
Just recently upgraded and installed everything today.

I installed fear and had a go at it, but I was disappointed with the results.

On 1024x768 4xaa 8xaf it barely seemed playable, jerking when I turned a corner etc. So I lowered this but the problem persisted.

I looked at the card settings in the ati control centre and the card is running at 500mhz vpu and 594mhz gpu. This seems slower than it should be, and the card is pretty hot at 55 degrees idle (god knows what it was at during 3d mark).

Other games seem to play well but the fear demo doesnt.

i'm running a 3700+ 939, 2gb of ram (2x1gb) and a connect3d 1900xt

Advice appreciated :),

[edit! is there a way to check if memory is working dual channel?]

Read this thread.

With the stock cooler my XT-X idle temps were mid to high 50's and hit 90 at full load before I watercooled it.

Sounds like it could be a driver issue. Did you use drive cleaner to get rid of the old drivers first?, very important especially if going Nvidia/ATI or vice versa.

Those temps are fine, Fear is probably poor as its only the demo, and your other games run fine, had no problems here with the full game on an x1800 XT 512mb, had it maxed in 1280x1024 2xAA/16xAF ran great, im sure the demo ran poor for me though as well. :)

Welcome to the forums btw. :)

When you boot your machine it should say if its running in Dual Channel, when it does the memory count etc...

I don't have an X1900 XT but I think those clocks are lower than you would expect cos your looking at the card during 2D mode.

You can also find out if your running your memory in dual channel mode with cpu-z http://www.cpuid.com :)

Oh yeah forgot about CPUZ, good little program that, and as said here those are the 2D speeds, its goes to its proper speeds (3D) when gaming, the requested speeds if your looking at them in the CCC. :)

I get quite poor performance in FEAR (combat) , think its the game rather than a hardware issue tbh

x1800xt
2gb geil
opty 146 @ 2.7ghz (for now)

I got overly low frame rates in some games since getting my X1900XT running at 675 Core and 720 Mem. I've found that disabeling all AA and AF in the game, and enabling it the driver reaps huge rewards.

Are any of you guys with FEAR frame-rate issues running X64..........I used to run FEAR ok under X64, but since an X-Fi went in I've noticed almost a halving of the frame-rate (even though the game supports both OS and soundcard)
Definitley a game issue, as everything else is cushty..
