Hi there

I finally got my X1900XT-X (connect 3D) from Overclockers with 512MB. I tried the drivers that came with it (6.4) and others too - after settling for 6.5 (CCC)

What I want to know though is this. Currently ATM, when I open Catalyst centre, and unlock the overdrive, it says: current VPU Clock 500 & Current Memory Clock: 594
Thus:

Looking at reviews, I see "X1900 XTX 650 MHz core / 775 MHz" So why does the overdrive default at the above? - and not the 650 MHz core / 775 MHz clocks? I ran the Overdrive, and got 689/797 - ran 3d tests no artefacts etc (perfect actually). But why should I have to over clock my card to get the standard 650/775?

Probably missed something I don’t know! - I as just wondering if theres something amiss here. My card is running stock cooler BTW

I thought some ATI cards throttle down the GPU and Mem speeds when in 2D mode, for example, running simple desktop applications? So the card is only being stressed when required to do so, for example, when you play a game.

Cheers Cyclops, so do I keep the "lock" open on Overdrive and let it "up" the speeds automatically,? - or should I just set it to 650/775 - WHEN gaming? - is it safe to keep these clocks on all the time (not that I would want to if not gaming, but curious anyway :)

Cheers ;)

Edit: My specs are similar to yours too cyclops: FX-55, 2 gig Ram Same card;), same power amount (mines a Seasonic 18Ampx2 on 12V Rail)

no in 2d mode its at the current settings
and when you play a game it auto's up to the requested clocks
if you look at the requested clocks they are 641 core and 774[1548] on the ram

and if you want to overclock you will notice the sliders on the left start at the requested clocks
hope this helps ;)
