SaviNg private Ryan ww1 edition.

All warfilms are a must see for me so I hope this one makes it to Sweden.

Not surprised that this thread has very little replies after the films release. It was very lack luster and never met my expectations. I never felt like I wanted to stop watching but at the same time I didn't feel anything at all. Strange for what I expected to be a very emotional film.

I suspect a lot of people who are giving this 9/10 in the "What film did you watch last night" thread are either young and its their first war film in a cinema or they're ignoring its obvious flaws to high praise its technical ability.

Well I've seen it twice now and think it's utterly superb. Bizarrely even better the second time around, everything hit home more-so emotionally, although obviously I didn't get as much tension.

As much as Deakins is amazing, I fear he may not win for it unless the Oscars have finally realised he should have won ten times over and they want to make up for it. Some bits are completely beautiful, like the burning church, the flares at night etc.. Lumps in my throat in the final run along the trenches. Wow.

Very little action for a war movie!
It's funny how when a movie is set during the war people automatically assume it is going to be a gung-ho action movie. If you'd have bothered to read the story you'd know it's about the two guys delivering a message?

Seeing this Saturday afternoon, not sure what to think based on the differing opinions I have seen. I absolutely hate Mendes' Bond films but I absolutely loved American Beauty and Road to Perdition.

My nephew wants to see this, he's 13, and looks a lot older for his age. Those that have seen it, do you think he will enjoy it or should I take him to see Star Wars instead. :D

You're the uncle. Your job is to be the cool uncle... so take him to see both, with dinner in between screenings at whatever local place is the cool place!
