Hi All,

Don't post too often but always find this forum great for info, I have searched through and can't find an answer to my questions so I thought I would post.

I built a new rig in April for gaming but then went off my PC to my 360 however I'm getting back into it again with Team fortress and also looking forward to COD 4.

I'm considering upgrading my 1950 xtx, I run all games with all options turned to high at 1280 * 1024, have Core Due e6600 & 4GB Geil ram so a fairly well specced machine.

I'm looking to upgrade the 1950 xtx for DX10, I don't really have any budget considerations however I want the best value for my money

Would the following options be a upgrade to the 1950 xtx

1950 xtx -> Nvidia GTS 640 mb

1950 xtx -> ATI 2900 XT

1950 xtx -> 8800 GTX

I know the GTX is the most powerful however is it worth it considering I run my games at 1280 * 1024, may start to run at 1650 * 1280.

Will Cod 4 be DX10 if not is it worth hanging onto my 1950 xtx for a while

Cheers guys

If you want DX10 you will also need vista.
If you want the best performance then get a 8800GTX though.

Cod 4 is dx10 all the cards you mentioned there are good value for there
performance. If you have the money then get a gtx. The xt is slightly faster
than the gts but tbh nothing really between them so its upto you which
one you would go for. Atm i would say nvidia are slightly stronger in the dx10
department but ati are well known for having better driver support so that
could all change.

Cool cheers guys, I have been running Vista 64 bit since release so I'm fine with DX10.

Have just seen the OCUK GTX at £299 Didn't realise they were getting quite cheap now compared to when they were released.

Think I will go for it to future proof m machine for a bit, anyone know how much I could roughly get for my 1950 xtx?

on terms of performance, 1st 8800 GTX, 2nd 8800 GTS 640mb (is about on par with 2900 XT, but wins out due to much better Dx10 performance, framerates actually go up a tad, unlike the 2900 XT which drops by over 30+ frames in Dx10 and gets crippled) 3rd x2900 XT , 4th 2900 pro

Fixed. :p

cool, that's what i was thinking.

I have a 500w PSU, forgotten the make, purchased it from OCUK in April - at the time it had rave reviews and is meant to be a good PSU

Does anyone know if I will get any grief with this?

Cool cheers for your help again guys, my PSU is a Thermal Take TVW, it is ATX12 2.0 so I assume it should be good.

Guess there is one way to find out ;o)))

Bit the bullet and purchased a BFG 8800 GTX today, thought sod it may aswell get a great card too last me , my 1950 xtx didn;'t last long and was probably a bad upgrade for me as I already had a 7800 GTX 256mb.

Hoping to get 100 for the 1950 XTX, I just hope they start bringing out some brill games.

how I would love to see BF3, played CoD 4 Beta on my 360 and decided I wanted to play it properly like the good old days of CoD not on some horrible joypad.

Just measured my case and it's going to be a very very snug fit but I think the GTX will just about squeeze in ;o))))

Thanks for all the responses guys.
