Much to my delight I managed to get this lovely vintage game running under Win 10. However one bit of advice to improve sound quality I’m struggling with is setting CPU affinity to use just one core. I figured out how to get the affinity menu up via Task Manager, but out of the many cores it displays, which one do I choose?

Any advice would be appreciated. This is a classic title with most of the courses reflecting their real life counterparts, some over 15 miles long.

CPU0 did the trick, thanks.

Is this MOBIL 1 RALLY CHAMPIONSHIP?
I believe the same game goes by a few different names
Yes, that's the one - brilliant game but a tad frustrating when you start losing gears then the clutch just a mile short of the finish line.
If ever a game deserved to be remade to modern standards, it's this one.

Absolutely stunning graphically at the time. It took a while to come out after first seeing it, but those screens in PC Gamer back in 98 had the same wow vibe about them as Gran Turismo did a year earlier.

More of a Mcrae fan but certainly a golden age of rally titles, they released so many around the early ought's.

Brings back memories of huge duration stages compared to modern rally games and frustrating retirements ~20 years ago!

Managed to scrape through the 4th stage of the Welsh section last night, first and second gear gone and clutch on its last legs! The one thing I remember about this game is the penchant for chewing up the gearbox. I’ve since found a ral.cfg reference which amongst other things allows you to change the damage parameters to something a little less punishing!

Nice retro rig!
Thanks. It was a mini lockdown project but it gets a fair amount of use. When the time comes to sell, I should easily get back what I paid for it all.

That was (is) a good car to drive in the events. I’m currently using the Astra which isn’t great, even with damage turned down, halfway through the second stage of the Northumbrian Rally it chewed through second gear. I may start over... Back in the day, strange to relate I actually got my best results driving the Skoda. Maybe the game felt sorry for me!

Mentions of Network Q here. That was a great game back in the day!
I still like that yellow/blue livery on the Megane.
Everything about Network Q screams 90s. I loved watching the intro, probably more than playing the game :D
The older Magnetic Fields intro/logo with music I remember from days of Lotus and Supercars on the Amgia
