We have finaly taken the plunge and bought the 1Ds MkIII.

It is charged up, new Extreme IV card installed, 85mm f1.2 fitted, ready to go.

All I need to do now is wait till Monday, when they take the plaster cast off my elbow and I can try to lift it to my eye.

It is going to be long weekend...

You might want to rehabilitate you arm by lifting some weights first!... Small Children are about the same weight as the 1Ds... Can you find a Small child... I think 6 reps should do it 3 times a day for about a week!!!

You don't want shaky photos now do you!!!.. :D

We expect some stonking photos from you now!!!

(If there is any Jelousy present in my above post... Good!... I want a 1Ds but I can't afford it... Plus the Wife won't let me!)

Plus the Wife won't let me!

May I reccomend new wife? My old one listed "Buying digital cameras" as part of my "Unreasonable behaviour" on the divorce papers, which meant buying exactly one - a Sony Mavica. My new one not only encouraged me to buy everything in my signature, she drove me down to Burgess Hill to pick it up the 1Ds, then bought me a handstrap for it.

There was some amusement afterwards though when I spotted used car for sale and noted that for only 700 quid more, we could have bought a Rolls Royce.

i don't see an EF 28mm f/1.8 in your sig. i'm very very dissapointed.

Havn't considered it. That space is already covered by the 16-35 f2.8L.

In my experience, wide angle shots tend to be things where the speed of the glass isn't quite so important, so I don't feel any pull towards a f1.8 non-L.

On the other hand, I'm already lusting after the 800mm f5.6L

I am more interested about the 85 F1.2.

Now, that is a beautiful bit of glass. A pleasure to use. To the extent that rather than think "Which lens would be best for this shot?" I am inclined to ask myself "Can I use the 85 for this?"

I had to shoot something, so we went in search of ducks in the grey light of the damp afternoon. These are shot with my left hand, using the landscape grip and the portrait trigger. 400mm, 800ASA.

Full frame and 100% crop.

Burgess Hill? I live there!

Good job you managed to escape alive, not many people do!

It's the first time I've ever seen the usual 'new camera duck shot' taken upside down :)

Yeah, I think that has to be a first. How about some upside-down flowers for afters :p ?

Seriously, hope you enjoy your new bit of kit - be sure to show us some shots when you get to put it through its paces properly.

luckily my missus has deemed as buying/using camera equipment keeps me out of midcheif so i am happy!

Ye gods are you serious ?

Yes. The divorce papers also cited "kite flying". Amongst the kite flying community, this is seen as a badge of honour. The truth is that they can list just about anything they like as "unreasonable behaviour" and arguing over the detail only makes the lawyers richer.

That annoys me so much, I can't post due to swearing rules ;)

Basically anything the ex wants to moan about, they use against you. Gits. Oh and don't get me started on the "they deserve half of everything you have" thing either. How exactly are they entitled to anything they never paid for? Gold digging *******!
