1G iphone question

My iphone has 2.1 on it.

If I upgrade to the new itunes version will I lose everything and have to reinstall all my apps, music and photos?

No. Changing the version of iTunes won't affect your phone. It will offer you the latest version of the iPhone software and you should accept that though, it's a huge increase over V2. The software will install on the phone and leave it as it was except that it'll have the new OS on it.
