1gb -> 2gb. System Changes?

Well page file if its manual otherwise the system will take care of it.

Reg tweaks...isn't there a 'large system cache' tweak. Don't no its effectiveness but I hear its good and I have it enabled. But you could prob enable it with 1 gig.

Can't really think of any. just watch the things load faster.
 
Nothing except pagefile if you manually set it as Rednut05 said. Games - exiting, minimising etc, all without even affecting the system when you have 2GB as usually the pagefile goes unused.
 
Just out of interest what should the pagefile be set to with 2gigs of RAM? I did some reading on it back along and everywhere gave conflicting views! Im currently running mine at 2gig as well, as I heard windows tried to cache everything from memory to the pagefile...

ive noticed that I can alt tab out of battlefield 2 and it minimises and maximises instantly with no loading from the pagefile... does that mean I should knock the size down?
 
Well they say Windows XP has trouble addressing memory over about 3.5GB so setting it to either 1GB or 1.5GB would probably be best. I had mine set on 2GB too, but just remembered this fact.

The other day after playing HL2 I checked the pagefile usage - a whopping 72MB for the entire windows session.
 
I thought that Windows could access any amount of virtual memory? It was just the physical memory that it cant address any more than 3.5gigs of...

Ah well, I got it wrong then. I think you might be right in your summation. I did read somewhere though about sizes of VM+ physical memory and it should be kept about 3GB. That site was a tweak site on the subject but of course it may have been wrong.
 
well just plonked my 2GB in and still have like 300mb of PF usage - is that right? General memory consumption has gone up by around 100mb on windows load. My page file is not handled automatically and is currently set at 1500mb - although in the window it says the recommended amount is 3GB?!
 
i set my pagefile to 1gig, but my general memory usage in windows is about 150megs...

I suppose it could just be going up because Windows sees it has more room to use and is loading more things it could possible need into the RAM.
