1Gb memory in 7900GTX

arent these coming in 2 core flavours? so the 1gb will most likely be restricted to them. expect them to be ullllllllllltra expencive.

youve got to ask yourself, is there a point to that much memory??? some people are still on 128mb, most only went up to 256mb in the last 12 months and a few lucky people are on 512mb, by the time any game comes out that needs a gig of video ram the card itself will be out dated plus i bet its still on a 256bit buswidth... :(

it reminds me of selling a 6200 with 256mb on it... pointless.

if these are of XTX callibur, to run better at higher resolutions which is a big thing now, we have a thread about someone wanting to run their dell 3007 @ 2560x1600, maybe this card could do it alone, where an XTX does 37 fps @ 2048x1536 this will try n fight it, it will be a huge extravagance still for some its what they want.

1Gig of memory seems completly pointless to me, I'm running 1Gig on my system alone lol and its plenty - 1Gig on a card just seems insanely ott, 512mb isnt even used properly now-a-days is it?

glad im not alone :)

Interesting says ATi have a 1gb card timelined in for April/May, but thats madness, if the 512mb GTX is about £650, then its gona be welcome to the 1k graphics card. :D

I'll have 2x please for SLi, certainly sir thats 2k odd.

should be about £100 more expencive than the 512mb card assuming they use the same memory chips (just wack them on the back of the card) and not double density stuff.
The GTX was crazy expencive cos it uses faster ram iirc... but will still be surprised if they bring out a card with 1gb and one core....

Stupid, who wants or needs 1gb, and if they do who will want to pay the price tag. Memory isnt everything, the 6200 with 256mb is a prime example. will onlt be good for extreme resolutions but then again the cards themselves are not really fast enough to produce a decentish fps anyway at over 2000+ resolution.

I know people can buy what they want as it's their own money, but if anyone buys two 7900gtx 1gigs in SLi or even one of those cards if the price is completly stupid for the slight performance increase im expecting over the last generation cards - they are bloody idiots :D

if i had the money to buy it, i still probabilly woudnt because the performance increase probabilly wont be that great and anyways i would wait and get a direct X10 card(s) and wet myself because of how great the performance will be.

who needs 1GB? what if youre running at 2000+ res on a massive widescreen LCD monitor.. granted the majority of people wont have a use for this but the rich people that can afford a massive screen are going to want a gard that can support that resolution :)

if im not mistaken, the 6200 uses TurboCache which means that it uses system memory rather its own. i think theres 32MB of memory on the card, and it uses the system memory for the rest.

does it matter, everyone else understood it, you analysed it to death....

1GB is a joke. There is only one or two games which actually make good use of a 512MB card!

THE 1GB CARD WILL OBVIOUSLY BE THE DUAL GPU SLI CARD (2X512MB).

Yep,

But If we are ever to see proper HDR + AA done correctly, that will gobble up over 2GB in itslef at high res due to the storage of every fragment in every buffer.
